COMPETENCIES OF LEARNING:

YB-01. Understand continuous improvement.

YB-02. Differentiate lean, six sigma and LSS.

YB-03. Design metrics (KPI) for organizations.

YB-04. Perform statistical calculations using Excel.

YB-05. Use Excel and Minitab for SPC.

YB-06. Use Excel and Minitab for capability.

YB-07. Identify, eliminate or reduce wastes.

YB-08. Identify, eliminate or reduce variation.

YB-09. Understand DMAIC.

YB-10. Write DMAIC paper - Case 1.

YB-11. Analyze data and propose a project.

YB-12. Pass the Nievgen CLSSYB exam.

COMPETENCY INFORMATION

YB-01. Understand continuous improvement.

Discussion of 5S/6S/7S, Just-Do-it, Kaizen, Kaikaku, Lean, Six Sigma, Lean Six Sigma. Calculate the no. of pass, no. of fail, yield or pass rate, defect rate, DPMO, sigma score, Cpk and interpret business performance based on the calculations.

YB-02. Differentiate lean, six sigma and LSS.

Discussion of what is lean, "DOWNTIME", variation in 5M+E, six sigma, sigma score.  The participants are expected to understand, differentiate the objectives of lean and six sigma, including when lean is necessary and why six sigma is at most considered prior lean (for purpose of organizational control).  A discussion of the importance of 5M+E will also emphasized in the competency.

YB-03. Design metrics (KPI) for organizations.

The competency starts with a discussion of the primary or parent classification of business metrics.  It will be followed by the use of SIPOC to determine the process metrics.  The participants will also receive a list of department metrics for HR, finance, customer service, sales and other departments.  Also the value of the function y=f(x) will be explained (Input, Process and Output) and its relation to 5M+E.

YB-04. Perform statistical calculations using Excel.

Two important set of measures will be explained in the lecture: Measures of Central Tendency (Mean, Median and Mode) and Measures of Dispersion/Variation (Range, Standard Deviation, Interquartile Range).  The instructor shall explain how the two sets of measures are very relevant to continuous improvement and process/product performance.  Also, normality, skewness and kurtosis shall be explained.  The participants, aside from performing statistical calculation by function and by Data Analysis, will also graph data for better explanation of process story.  Other topics in the competencies are visualization of process variation and linear regression.

YB-05. Use Excel and Minitab for SPC.

The Statistical Process Control Chart will be explained to the participants, most especially, in limiting the variation of process and detection of process excursion and outliers. The participants are expected to calculate the Lower Control Limit (LCL), Upper Control Limit (UCL), recommend and specify the Upper and Lower Specification Limit (USL, LSL).  After the calculation, the participants are expected to graph SPC via Excel.  A demonstration on the use of Minitab for SPC shall also be performed by the facilitator.

YB-06. Use Excel and Minitab for capability.

Overall capability determines the compliance of a process or a product to the specification limits (no violation of limits, Cpk>=1.33).  In the class, the participants are expected to understand how capability is being reported in the organization and why it is important.  The participants will also calculate Cpk, with a given case as provided by the facilitator.  The facilitator shall also demonstrate how capability analysis is being performed in Minitab.

YB-07. Identify, eliminate or reduce wastes.

The participants will be given cases and they will identify wastes in the processes.  The participants will also be asked on what are they going to do to improve the process/product.

YB-08. Identify, eliminate or reduce variation.

The participants will be given cases and they will identify variation in the processes.  The participants will also be asked on what are they going to do to improve the process/product.

YB-09. Understand DMAIC.

The participants are expected to understand and remember the emphasis and significance of Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control. The facilitator shall explain the process of proposing, evaluating, executing, approving and validating a lean six sigma project implementation (initiate, plan, execute, monitor, control and shall provide a template to fill up.

YB-10. Write DMAIC paper - Case 1.

The facilitator and the participants will analyze a lean six sigma case study and will define the problem, measure the baseline performance, analyze wastes and causes of variation, recommend solution and based from given implementation data, provide the improved data (statistical performance), compare means of the performances (baseline vs new data) and then identify control measures to sustain the process.

YB-11. Analyze data and propose a project.

The participants shall be given cases and they will be asked on what to do with the problem.  They need to apply their learnings and newly developed skills in providing the solutions.

YB-12. Pass the Nievgen CLSSYB exam.

The participants need to answer the take home final examination and the interview essays to determine their full comprehension of the topics discussed and to close the gaps in learning.
